The Adventure Trance

Julia Donaldson has written some of my all time favourites, The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom, Stick Man, Superworm, A Gold Star for Zog and Zog and the Flying Doctors. She has been appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire in the 2011 Birthday Honours and Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2019 New Year Honours. She was awarded honorary doctorates by the University of Bristol in 2011 and the University of Glasgow in 2012.

Her children’s book have won countless awards and it is easy to understand why. Her rhymes seem to lull you into an adventure filled trance you are reluctant to wake up from.

I was also intrigued to learn that we have something else in common, other than our joint love of children’s books. Julia’s husband, Malcolm Donaldson, is a retired consultant paediatrician who according to her bio, “is a doctor, like Princess Pearl”.
