Five Stars for Fancy
Posted on June 26, 2021
Fancy Nancy spent nearly 100 weeks on the New York Times Best Seller list, launching a series now upwards of 80 books, selling 43 million volumes. Jane O’Connor vice-president and editor-at-large for Penguin Books for Young Readers came up with Fancy Nancy on a summer evening. As she describes it, “It was after dinner one evening that the title just came to me,” she recalls, “I sat down and wrote the first and last paragraphs. The rest of the story took me a while, but the beginning and the end just flew into my head.”
It is impossible not to be charmed by Fancy Nancy and her rose-coloured, bedazzled rimmed glasses. As she invents a world only she could envision – one filled with bows, ribbons, lace and sprinkles – you get the magical opportunity to travel back in time with her and participate in all the fanciness you could have ever imagined or dreamt of.
I laugh every time I read a Fancy Nancy book. And I have spent the fanciest of times with my daughter sharing the read, planning our own fancy adventures inspired by the series and sticking many a Fancy Nancy sticker (provided in a number of the books) wherever we feel it would make the illustrations just a little bit fancier!

–Fancy Nancy sounds like an escape that I am needing these days! With three boys at tow, fancy has become secondary in my life…thank you for the reminder! My literary escapes with them currently include “The Chronicles of Narnia” where I suppose I get to experience a bit of Fancy with the Ice Queen…LOL.

–An impressive share! I have just forwarded this onto a co-worker who has
been conducting a little research on this. And
he actually ordered me dinner because I found it for him…

But yeah, thanks for spending some time to talk about this issue here on your website.
