A Romantic at Heart
Posted on February 7, 2021
Jane Austen starting her writing career at the age of eleven, perhaps earlier. She wrote poems and stories for her own and her family’s amusement, the details of daily life are exaggerated, common plot devices are parodied and the “stories are full of anarchic fantasies of female power, license, illicit behaviour, and general high spirits” according to Janet Todd, British academic and author.
Her novels have inspired many critical essays and literary anthologies as well as many films which continue to draw a crowd right up until present day, Love & Friendship (2016) and the popular Emma (2020).
Her use of biting irony, realism, humour and social commentary have been cited as the secret to her acclaim and are perhaps the reason she remains relevant centuries later.
So the question is, what we she have said about Percivious Insomnia? Of course we can only guess at her critique, but being left to imagine her reaction we could guess that she may have enjoyed chapter sixteen involving a heated exchange between Miss Grace and our Dr. Delaney with it’s witticisms and flirtatious banter. With respect to the next instalment of the Percivious trilogy, Percivious Origins we can only assume that she may have advised that we not sacrifice seduction for science entirely. And with that in mind, I can safely say she would be please with the direction the new book is taking. Fear not Jane Austen, in book two romance will prevail, not only on Earth but far beyond…
